Product Description
Cutimed Hydro is a range of sterile hydro-colloid wound dressings that help to maintain a moist wound environment. The dressing material interacts with the wound exudate to form a soft gel. Due to the matrix formulation of the hydrocolloid material, most of the gel is removed together with the dressing, resulting in little or no damage to the newly formed tissue. Cutimed Hydro dressings are waterproof and remain in place during showering. They protect the wound against external contamination.
Composition
Cutimed Hydro dressings consist of a wound contact layer of hydrocolloids. The top layer is either a semi-permeable polyurethane film (Cutimed Hydro L), or a film-coated polyurethane foam (Cutimed Hydro B). Cutimed Hydro B has a top layer of foam, and has tapered edges all around the product. Cutimed Hydro L is conformable and has a top layer of low friction film, which allows close and easy monitoring of the healing process without dressing removal.
Indications
Cutimed Hydro B is primarily indicated for the management of light to moderately exuding chronic wounds. Under the supervision of a healthcare professional, Cutimed Hydro B dressings may be used on:
- leg ulcers (ulcers of mixed aetiology)
- diabetic ulcers
- venous ulcers
- arterial ulcers
- pressure ulcers
- post-operative surgical wounds
- skin donor sites
Cutimed Hydro L is primarily indicated for management of superficial, dry to light exuding wounds such as:
- lacerations
- minor abrasions
- minor burns (superficial and partial thickness)
- post op protection of closed surgical sites
Cutimed Hydro dressings are suitable for use under compression bandages.
Mode of action
Cutimed Hydro dressings absorb exudate whilst maintaining a moist wound environment. By releasing moisture, Cutimed Hydro facilitates autolytic debridement. As a result, the wound may appear to become larger during initial changes of the dressing.
Precautions
Sterility is guarenteed unless package is damaged or opened prior use. Single use only. The dressing may be used on infected wounds only under the care of a healthcare professional in addition to an antimicrobial therapy. In case of any signs of adverse reactions, macerations, hypergranulation or prolonged enlargement of the wound do not continue the application and consult a healthcare professional. For external use only.
Contra-Indications
Cutimed Hydro dressings should not be used:
- on patients with a known sensitivity/allergy to any of the product components.
- on third-degree burns.
Directions for use
Wound preparation
- Prepare the wound according to wound management protocol.
- Remove excess moisture from surrounding skin.
Dressing Application
- Choose a dressing size and shape to ensure that the dressing is 2.5 cm (1”) larger than the wound area in any one direction.
- Remove the dressing from the packaging and partially remove the white release paper exposing the center of the dressing. Then grasp the clear release film at the end with the arrows.
- Position the dressing over the wound and line up the center of the dressing over the center of the wound. Gently press the dressing in place over the wound.
- Remove the white release paper completely and secure the adhesive to the skin.
- Next remove the clear release film from the other side of the dressing and secure the adhesive to the skin.
- Place your hand over the dressing and mold the dressing into place.
Difficult to Dress Wounds
Difficult to dress wounds like sacral areas need special attention.
- Remove the dressing from the package and remove the white release paper from the back of the dressing.
- Grasp the clear release film with the arrows at each edge of the dressing.
- Hold the adhesive side of the dressing over the wound and line up the center of the dressing over the center of the wound. Position the “hinge” of the dressing into the area between the buttocks and gently press the dressing in place over the wound.
- Remove the clear release film from each end of the dressing and secure to the skin.
- Place your hand over the dressing and mold the dressing into place.
Note: The dressing should be inspected frequently for leakage and bunching/rolling up of the edges. If any of these occur, the dressing should be changed. As wound fluid is absorbed by the dressing, gel formation may be visible from the outer surface of the dressing.
Dressing Change and Removal
- Cutimed Hydro can remain in situ up to 7 days, depending on patient condition and the level of exudate. Frequent dressing changes on wounds with damaged or delicate skin surrounding the wound is not recommended.
- Press down on the skin with one hand and carefully lift an edge of the dressing with your other hand.
- Repeat this procedure around the perimeter of the dressing until all the edges are free and gently roll the dressing off of the wound site.
- If required, irrigate the wound site with a suitable wound cleanser prior to application of new dressing.
Storage
Store at room temperature. Avoid refrigeration and exposure to high humidity. Do not re-sterilise.
