Description of the Product:
Cutimed PROTECT Film is a polymeric solution and forms an even film when applied to skin. The product is dispersed in a non-irritating solvent which dries rapidly to form a colourless, transparent film with good permeability to oxygen and water vapour. Cutimed PROTECT Film helps to protect both intact or damaged skin from irritation that may arise from urinary and/or faecal incontinence, digestive and wound fluids, adhesives and shearing forces.
Indications:
Cutimed PROTECT Film is supplied as a liquid and intended for use as a film-forming product. When applied to intact or damaged skin the product forms a durable, waterproof barrier that works as a protective shield between the skin and bodily waste, fluids, adhesive products and shearing forces. The product is designed to serve as a primary barrier against irritation from bodily fluids.
Contraindications:
Cutimed PROTECT Film should not be used as the only skin covering in circumstances that require protection from bacterial contamination or penetration by dressing materials, e.g. catheter sites for intravenous therapy and full or partial thickness wounds. Cutimed PROTECT Film should not be used on infected skin.
Warning:
Cutimed PROTECT Film is supplied in a flammable liquid form; the product must be used in well-ventilated areas only. The product should not be used near naked flames or sources of ignition. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use if pack is damaged or open.
Precautions:
If skin reddening or any other signs of irritation appear, or if skin reddening or other signs of irritation persist, the use of Cutimed PROTECT Film should be discontinued and a doctor consulted. Use of other barrier products, ointments, creams or lotions may have a significant adverse effect on the efficacy of Cutimed PROTECT Film. The contents of the spray bottle are sterile until first use.
Directions for use:
- Clean and dry the affected area before applying Cutimed PROTECT Film.
- Hold the spray nozzle at a distance of 100 to 150 mm (4 – 6 inches) from the skin and apply a smooth, even coating of film over the desired area by applying the spray in a sweeping motion.
- If an area is missed during the first application, allow Cutimed PROTECT Film to dry (approximately 30 seconds) and then apply again only to the desired area.
- When applying Cutimed PROTECT Film to areas with skin folds or areas where skin touches skin, make sure that these areas are sufficiently exposed to air to allow the film to fully dry.
- Using the product under adhesive tape, dressings or devices: A: allow Cutimed PROTECT Film to fully dry before covering the area with a dressing or adhesive products. B: Cutimed PROTECT Film needs to be re-applied each time the dressing and/or adhesive products is/are changed; most adhesives will remove the barrier film.
- Using the product for protection from body fluids, faeces or urine etc. without other adhesive products being applied to the skin: A: it is recommended to re-apply Cutimed PROTECT Film every 24-72 hours, depending on how often the area is cleaned. B: in extreme cases (e.g. chronic diarrhoea) which involves very frequent skin cleansing, it may be necessary to re-apply the product more frequently (i.e. every 12-24 hours).
- If desired, the film can be removed with most medical adhesive removers following the directions of the manufacturer. Cleanse and dry the area and then re-apply Cutimed PROTECT Film.
- Replace the cap over the spray nozzle when not in use.
