Protection and assessment
Diabetic foot ulcers do not necessarily reoccur. With full patient involvement, new ulcers can be avoided or recognised and treated early on.
Foot care
Patients need to learn how to daily examine their feet. They must be aware that even the smallest of stones in the shoe can trigger diabetic foot ulcers. Regular checks and professional pedicure are vital. Comfortable footwear helps to avoid pressure points. If, as a result of neuropathy, sensitivity disorders already exist, the shoes must be checked for rough areas.
Diabetic socks
Diabetic socks offer both comfort and protection (e.g. SensiFoot). They are especially designed for the needs of diabetic feet. Extra-padding in the foot, heel and toe reduces friction and provides extra comfort and protection. Acrylic multifibre yarns wick away moisture to keep feet comfortable and dry.
Fitness for feet
Daily foot exercises not only relax the feet but also promote circulation. Special training sessions show patients which exercises are ideal for diabetics.
Provide medical skin care
Designed for the particular requirements of problematic and dry skin conditions in eldery people, Cutimed Medical Skin Care provides rich care and moisture contributing to reduce dryness and itching. A skin-friendly pH value and the absence of colorants and fragrance provide optimal care for stressed, problematic and mature skin. Newly healed and dry skin need to be stabilised by providing sufficient amounts of moisture and lipids maintaining the barrier function of skin.
- Adding urea helps very dry skin to re-balance its moisture content and to stabilize its natural barrier function (e.g. Cutimed ACUTE 5% or 10%).
